Akiva Goldsman is in talks with Paramount to write the previously announced third installment of horror franchise The Ring. Goldsman, who most recently rewrote the script for Insurgent, also just signed on to follow Winter’s Tale by directing the supernatural tale Stephanie, and has previous experience in the horror genre from producing several Paranormal Activity films.
Based on the novel by Koji Suzuki, The Ring 3D will pick up with Samara and her cursed videotape in tow. While it’s been rumored to be a prequel, nothing has been officially confirmed yet. So it’s still possible it will be about the gruesome deaths not of innocent teens but of VHS, as Samara discovers it’s now impossible to find anyone who still uses a VCR.
