American Gods’ Pablo Schreiber wants to reboot Wolverine

The development history of the TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods was almost as mythic as the story within; HBO took first crack at a proper homage about 10 years before Starz brought it back from the dead. Despite the long wait, the results have been overwhelmingly positive, and a second season is already in the works. And so, following the Jesus-packed conclusion to the first season, one cast member is looking to tackle a similarly impossible-sounding project.

In a recent chat with ComicBook.com, Pablo Schreiber, who plays Mad Sweeney on Bryan Fuller’s series, says he’d be up for a Wolverine reboot. Turns out, the Wire alum was drawn to character back in the ’80s, and has been a big fan of the rage-filled, fast-healing mutant ever since. So, sure, if “Hugh [Jackman] is done now with Wolverine,” Schreiber says, “maybe it’s time for a reboot. Maybe it’s time for a new Wolverine.”

Now, no one’s currently shopping one around, since 20th Century Fox just laid the franchise to rest. But if such a project were floating around out there, Schreiber would totally love to take a swing at it. His brother, Liev Schreiber, did play Sabretooth in the first standalone Logan film, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but that’s probably not quite enough to get a new take on the character off the ground. But that’s cool, because if this reviving Wolverine thing doesn’t work out, Schreiber’s also interested in playing Daredevil, who‘s currently being played by Charlie Cox in the third season of that Netflix series (not to mention Defenders). There’s no telling which opportunity will open up first, but Schreiber will be there, in between battles between gods new and old.
