At Apple's developer's conference Monday, after unveiling its new mobile operating system, its Sarah Palin-inspired desktop OS, and a new "Darth Vader Sex Toy" look for the Mac Pro, the company also announced iTunes Radio, its attempt to compete with Spotify, Pandora, and other services that lose money and don't give artists enough royalties. iTunes has long been able to stream Internet radio stations, but this new service will pick songs based on listeners' existing musical tastes—or, like Pandora, based on a suggested artist. Like those other services, it will have a free version with commercials, and a paid version without.
