Battlestar Galactica is frakking back

Also: Regular Show’s finale, football, and The Sixties

Here’s what’s up in the world of TV for Thursday, August 14. All times are Eastern.

Top pick

Battlestar Galactica (2 p.m.): It’s finally here: The TV Club Classic reviews of Battlestar Galactica, as conducted by Sonia Saraiya. Somehow this series slipped through the cracks of early TV Club—only season four was ever reviewed regularly. Now we’re going back to the start, so that The A.V. Club has our thoughts and feelings about Battlestar Galactica on record, forever, so say we all. Today, Sonia tackles the first half of the miniseries. Come by. Read a tad. Stay a while. We’ll all look for Earth together.

Also noted

Regular Show (Cartoon Network, 7:30 p.m.): The triumphant debut of BSG reviews means that Regular Show’s fifth-season finale is bumped down to “just” an Also Noted. But we are noting it a whole bunch, as will Alasdair Wilkins in his review tonight. Regular Show’s sixth season will be back in January 2015.

Gang Related (Fox, 9 p.m.): And the first season of this new drama from Fox wraps up tonight. Chapel leads the team to Mexico and Daniel uses his wedding to broker a deal. Cool.

The Sixties (CNN, 9 p.m.): This CNN docu-series is wrapping up tonight. What’s On Tonight finally watched some of it last Thursday when we were stuck in an airport for far too long. We learned very little about the space race but we have to admit, the series is very pretty.

Monday Night Football Exhibition: Jaguars at Bears (ESPN, 8 p.m.): There isn’t a lot to say about this that isn’t in the title, but hey, for those of you starved for football, here is some football!

Regular coverage

Adventure Time (Cartoon Network, 7 p.m.)
Defiance (Syfy, 8 p.m.)
Rectify (Sundance, 9 p.m.)
Married (FX, 10 p.m.):
Youre The Worst (FX, 10:30 p.m.)

Other things that are on

The Quest (ABC, 8 p.m.)
The Honorable Woman (SundanceTV, 10 p.m.)
Garfunkel And Oates (IFC, 10 p.m.)
Satisfaction (USA, 10 p.m.)

Elsewhere in TV Club

Matt Crowley has a new webseries for us: Next Time On Lonny, a sketch-comedy short-form show that he’s giving us a rundown of in 15 Minutes Or Less. Got 15 minutes? Check it out.

What else is on?

The Quest (ABC, 8 p.m.): We definitely did already mention this up top but we have to talk about it again, because The Quest you guys, The Quest. This is the episode description for tonight: “The Paladins rely on physical stamina, intelligence, and resourcefulness to save the queen.” Which queen? How? Why does she need saving? To these questions The Quest replies emphatically, WHO CARES?

Society X With Laura Ling (E!, 8 p.m.): This is an episode about living dolls—more specifically, people who use makeup and plastic surgery to look like plasticized versions of themselves. This will air at 7 p.m. in the Central time zone and that strikes us as too early to learn about living dolls.

Big Brother (CBS, 9 p.m.): Carrie Raisler said on her Twitter that this was getting good, and we always listen to her, so here is a blurb about it for What’s On Tonight. If only we knew anything about this season of Big Brother. Well, it is the 16th season, and the episode description is “Another houseguest is evicted from the compound,” and yeah, that’s all we’ve got, readers.

Dating Naked (VH1, 9 p.m.): “A New York accountant and a spunky tomboy seek love on a tropical island.”

#candidlynicole (VH1, 10 p.m.): It’s true, we’ve reached the point where we’re featuring a full two hours of VH1’s content, but it’s just that compelling. Tonight Nicole learns about office etiquette, and also serves as a restaurant chef.

LeAnn And Eddie (VH1, 10:30 p.m.): “LeAnn’s childhood friend visits with her newborn, stirring baby fever in LeAnn. Meanwhile, Eddie inadvertently goes on a double date with his friend.”

Step Up 3 (ABC Family, 9 p.m.): Oh hey, are you jonesing for more Step Up after catching Step Up All In this weekend? Well, here’s installment number three.

In case you missed it

Wilfred: Series finale last night. Rowan Kaiser has a feel or two, for you.
