Ever since Neurosis, and later Isis, put post-metal on the map, the genre has progressed at a slow and steady pace—and that’s no different with the Chicago outfit Beak. The band’s upcoming full-length, Let Time Begin, honors its post-metal forebears by drawing atmosphere, heaviness, and shadowy melodicism into an upward-spiraling swell of transcendent aggression. The song “Light Outside,” which is being debuted here, pretty much says it all; with skin-crawling touches of both bestiality and beauty, it makes for an uneasy yet mesmerizing listen.

Let Time Begin will be released September 23 via Someoddpilot Records.
