Ben Gibbard and Jay Farrar team up to honor Kerouac

I realize just typing that headline that this sounds like a recipe for disaster, but I've still got hope. Death Cab For Cutie's Ben Gibbard and Uncle Tupelo/Son Volt mainman Jay Farrar will release a disc of new songs "with lyrics based on the prose of Jack Kerouac's landmark 1962 novel Big Sur" on October 20.

Farrar and Gibbard, both Kerouac fans apparently, met while recording songs for an upcoming Kerouac documentary, which will be released around the same time as the disc. Both are called One Fast Move Or I'm Gone: Kerouac's Big Sur. Gibbard has already proved that he can handle the subject well, on last year's "Bixby Canyon Bridge." We'll see where the rest goes...
