When an album’s release date gets pushed back, it’s usually completely out of the hands of the artist who recorded said album. But most artists aren’t Björk, who recently bumped the release of her app/album Biophilia to mid-October. Quoth the Icelandic muse of sound and outré costume design, who can’t be tethered your mundane rules about punctuation and capitalization:
“after humongous and fun adventurous work with the app builders we handed in the music for the app box last may i felt sonically it fitted that underworld of apps and virtual reality like a glove, kinda acoustic and clean with a slick dark sub but somehow the cd needed more blood and muscles, oxygen and stuff
i felt the album had different kinda growth potential than the app box and it is important to follow those hunches even though they are slippery and you don’t know sometimes where they are taking you”
In other words, Björk has temporarily dampened her experimental impulses and decided the music of Biophilia is more important than the album’s boundary-pushing presentation. Good news for Björk fans, bad news for fans of easy Björk jokes. Of course, this is Björk we’re talking about—she still has time to write a follow-up to this announcement revealing that Biophilia is being released in a series of vibrations that can only be received and amplified by a certain type of crystal.
