Having achieved a Zen-like tranquility with the state of his career, Brendan Fraser will follow his “one man’s nadir is another man’s niche” trajectory from Furry Vengeance to Whole Lotta Sole. And yes, it does involve shoes or fish, hence the pun. It is, in point of fact, fish. (Any involvement of shoes is merely incidental.) According to Variety, Fraser will star as a fishmonger whose shop is robbed by a guy trying to pay off his gambling debts, only to find that Fraser has his own troubles, as he’s currently hiding out from his gangster father-in-law. What any of this has to do with the title’s implication of having or not having “soul” is unclear—obviously it would have been better served by a story of a young fish struggling to make it as a blues singer—so calling it that seems like a test to see how far they can push Brendan Fraser before he just breaks down mid-junket on national television. On a positive note, it doesn’t appear as though any fish will hit Brendan Fraser in the balls.
