Cate Blanchett has signed on to Ridley Scott's Robin Hood project (once known as Nottingham), Variety is reporting. The role previously belonged to Sienna Miller. (This may be an instance of what is known as "trading up.")
From Variety's description, it sounds as if Scott is aiming... (Err, sorry.) It sounds as if he's shooting for.. (Crap, that sounds like a Robin Hood-themed pun too.) Scott is pulling a script reworked by Brian Helgeland from his movie quiver and drawing back his directing bow to let loose on a movie target of epic-sized proportions. But will he land a bullseye? (There you go! Awesome!):
Crowe plays Robin of Loxley in an origin story of Robin Hood that hews close to historical facts of the period. Abandoned as a child, he finds community with the common people of Nottingham. Robin's abandonment and trust issues hamper his ability to fall in love. He meets his match in Marian, a strong, independent woman.
The film begins production in April.
