Robert Rodriguez began his career with ultra-low budget action films like El Mariachi before hitting the big time with a family movie series (Spy Kids) and a creative peak collaborating with Frank Miller on Sin City. But his revival as an action director came courtesy of the fake trailer for Machete with Danny Trejo that played between the two Grindhouse features from Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino. The revival of B-movie style with A-level talent continues with Machete Kills, a sequel that touts a cast of Trejo, Mel Gibson as a gleeful terrorist, Charlie Sheen as the President, and supporting roles for Antonio Banderas, Demian Bichir, Cuba Gooding Jr., Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba, Sofia Vergara, Amber Heard, Vanessa Hudgens, Alexa Vega, and Lady Gaga. Combining schlocky grindhouse action with deadpan humor and a different facet of low-budget homage than Black Dynamite, Machete Kills promises more laughs, explosions, and purposefully sloppy style.
Machete Kills opens in Chicago on October 11, but we’ve got passes to an early screening on October 7. Just follow this link to Gofobo to enter for your chance to win an admit-two pass. Read the synopsis and watch the trailer below.
In MACHETE KILLS, Danny Trejo returns as ex-Federale agent MACHETE, who is recruited by the President of the United States for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man - he must take down a madman revolutionary and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war and anarchy across the planet.
