It’s been 30 years since the release of Bill Cosby: Himself, the special that revolutionized stand-up comedy by alerting comics to the existence of chairs. Now, after decades in which that film spawned The Cosby Show and influenced comics who continue to sing its praises to this day—albeit mostly while standing, still having yet to master the chair—Cosby is coming back. Comedy Central has announced it will air Bill Cosby: Far From Finished on November 24, Cosby’s first comedy special since Himself, and the first time anyone has seen him do a stand-up set outside of the live audiences who have seen him on tour. Robert Townsend—a fellow guy who was very active in the ‘80s, then not as much—directed the special, which is culled from Cosby’s appearance at the Cerritos Performing Arts Center last month. According to some recent reviews, Cosby is still a master of the funny storytelling tradition, still has observations about kids (grandkids this time), and still has the chair.
Here's Bill Cosby: Himself in its entirety, since you don't have anything else to do for the next two hours.
