Danny Strong to direct J.D. Salinger biopic in hopes we'll finally stop calling him "Jonathan from Buffy"

Danny Strong—the actor who has also forged a successful screenwriting career with his scripts for HBO’s Game Change and Recount, Lee Daniels’ The Butler, and the next two Hunger Games movies—is set to make his directorial debut, all as part of a continued, concerted effort to get us to stop referring to him as “Jonathan from Buffy The Vampire Slayer.” As with all those other projects, it won’t work.

Jonathan will helm Salinger’s War, an adaptation of Kenneth Slawensk’s J.D. Salinger: A Life, which traces the reclusive author’s early days as a struggling writer in New York whose career was waylaid—but also advanced—by his experiences in World War II. It’s familiar material for Jonathan, whose own writing career after penning his autobiography, Oh, Jonathan!, was waylaid—but also advanced—by a Thaumogenesis demon. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jonathan was so passionate about the project, he optioned Slawensk’s book with his own money, presumably using royalties from his starring role in The Matrix.
