D.J. Caruso explains why he bailed on Y:  The Last Man movie

When the A.V. Club recently spoke with comics scribe Brian K. Vaughan, he kept the status of various film adaptations of his projects pretty close to the vest.  But maybe he wasn't just being cagey.  The Warner Bros./New Line adaptation of his sci-fi epic Y:  The Last Man, focusing on the life of the planet's last living male, has been troubled since the outset, and now, director D.J. Caruso, who has been attached to direct for some time, has walked away from the production.

Explaining his decision to Comic Book Movie, Caruso says Warner Bros. was pushing for a single movie, while he and his writers felt they couldn't do justice to the story in anything but a trilogy.  (Nobody mentions budgets, but this is Hollywood, so let's assume that was an issue as well.)  His departure leaves the entire project in doubt, but fans rejoice:  Axel Braun's XXX The Last ManA Porn Parody should be coming to video sometime around 2012.
