Lost director Jack Bender may help reboot Jack Ryan franchise

According to an exclusive report from Vulture, Paramount is close to rebooting its Tom Clancy-derived Jack Ryan franchise with Lost director Jack Bender at the helm, who will try to rescue the CIA super-spy from the purgatory of diminished returns it’s been in since 2002’s The Sum Of All Fears with a new film currently titled Moscow. Another J.J. Abrams cohort, Star Trek’s Chris Pine, will reportedly inherit the mantle from previous holders Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and Ben Affleck, playing a “fresh-from-the-Marines” Ryan as he goes to work for a Russian billionaire and winds up implicated in a terrorist plot. While he’s proved himself more than adept at handling action by directing some of Lost’s finest hours (in addition to his work on Alias, The Sopranos, The Profiler, and many, many other shows), if he gets the job, it would be Bender’s first feature film since 1991’s Child’s Play 3. At least we know he’s got experience with military men.
