George R.R. Martin may want a Game Of Thrones movie

While a recent interview with Vanity Fair seemed to indicate George R.R. Martin was nervous about the inevitable moment when the Game Of Thrones TV show would catch up with his already-published works, today Martin seems confident about the show’s end game. Although the author has yet to finish the two final books planned for his series, he’s convinced they will require a movie-sized scope. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, he explains that a potential movie would be dependent on how long the main series runs.

“Do we run for seven years? Do we run for eight? Do we run for 10? The books get bigger and bigger [in scope]. It might need a feature to tie things up, something with a feature budget, like $100 million for two hours. Those dragons get real big, you know.”

(Unfortunately, however, fans do not know exactly how big the dragons get given that Martin has yet to publish the final two books.)

Martin also adds that his prequels, Tales Of Dunk And Egg—which he previously thought could make a good TV show—would also make a pretty good multi-million dollar movie, come to think of it. Given that these quotes were given at a party held after the show’s fourth season premiere, it’s possible Martin was simply excited and that a film adaptation is not being “actively discussed.”
