In the past few years, the demand for high-quality specialty movie poster art has skyrocketed, pilfering money from collectors drooling over intricate or minimalist illustrations created for classic films new and old. Twenty-Four By Thirty-Six is a new documentary about the history of those movie poster illustrations—including classics like Dracula, Jaws, and Blade Runner—and the modern resurgence of screenprinted film posters, covering everything from the process of drafting a design through arranging the likeness rights, displaying the art in galleries, and the many collectors who snap up those limited runs.
The filmmakers have conducted interviews with a wide range of artists, enthusiasts, and collectors, as well as some of the people involved with Mondo in Austin and Skuzzles in Ottawa, Canada. But they’re looking to round out the production with a more complete portrait of the printmaking community in Los Angeles, New York, and potentially London, which is why they’ve turned to Kickstarter for a boost. Rewards include T-shirts and, obviously, posters and limited-edition screen prints, and even a chance to be interviewed and included in the film as a poster art enthusiast.
