Labor Day has come and gone, meaning we’re fast approaching the real most wonderful time of the year, Halloween. Legendary Pictures, a company that has produced some memorable horror movies (and others best forgotten), knows very well the potential of the Halloween season. And it’s decided to celebrate it in a most Hollywood fashion: pitting aspiring filmmakers against each other to win the chance to work for the studio for free.
Though in all seriousness, the prize in Legendary’s “YouTube Space House of Horrors: A Legendary Halloween” contest is pretty good. The winning film will be developed into either a digital series or a full-length film. Filmmakers are invited to participate in the contest by using “Guillermo del Toro-inspired” Gothic horror sets at YouTube’s “Spaces” in Los Angeles, London and Tokyo. Del Toro, who is currently wrapping the Gothic romance Crimson Peak for Legendary, will review the resulting shorts and give personalized advice to the creators of his favorites.
Whether the results are blessed by del Toro’s hand or not, all entries into the contest will be feature on Legendary’s YouTube channel, the YouTube Spaces channel, and their various social media outlets. But—and it’s a big but—YouTube Spaces are only made available to filmmakers whose channels boast 10,000+ subscribers, so you’ll have to attend to that minor detail before filming begins on September 22.
