After spanning time and space with an adaptation of David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas, Lana and Andy Wachowski’s Jupiter Ascending looks to continue that sweeping, science-fiction scope. Channing Tatum plays Caine, “the perfect hunting machine” who also boasts some pointy ears, seeing as he’s apparently a “failed genetic splice” between a wolf and human. His task is tracking Mila Kunis’ Jupiter, a Russian immigrant janitor who, by chance, has the same genetic makeup as the Queen Of The Universe and is thus a threat to her reign.
The rest of the equally bizarre cast includes Sean Bean as Stinger, a “Han Solo-type character” (which hopefully means he isn’t marked for death, like usual); Eddie Redmayne, whose character has a strange, digitally distorted voice; and Cloud Atlas holdovers Doona Bae and James D’Arcy. The trailer features plenty of fancy spaceships dogfighting over the skyline of Chicago, and plenty of Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis making out. Jupiter Ascending hits theaters in July 2014.
