Jack White's charity train keeps on a-rollin' as he donates $200,000 to the National Recording Preservation Foundation

As if donating $142,000 to save a Detroit venue wasn't enough, Jack White has now given $200,000 to the National Recording Preservation Foundation. Formed just two years ago, the NRPF is a congressionally authorized “public/private partnership established to preserve and make accessible the recorded sounds of the United States,” according to its website.

White’s donation is the NRPF’s first, and it has allowed the foundation to get the ball rolling on its grant program and preservation plan. White is also on the NRPF’s board of directors, whose chairman says he hopes the musician’s generosity will inspire other (rich) people in the recording industry to take similar steps toward preserving musical recordings from the past and present.
