With a release date of July 26, 2013 already set, it’s probably time for the minds behind Fox’s The Wolverine to finish up casting so the James Mangold-directed, Hugh Jackman-starring film can actually get made. Deadline is reporting that said minds have settled on master thespian Jessica Biel to play Viper, a character who, as comics fans know, actually married Wolverine one time—though that love eventually soured (as all love does, right?). Comics fans will also point out that Viper is also known as Madame Hydra, one of the leaders of HYDRA, a group of villains that once feuded with S.H.I.E.L.D. and Captain America, but considering that property is owned by Disney/Marvel rather than Fox, it seems unlikely to factor into this film. A slew of other, probably less controversial castings were announced last week, including Will Yun Lee as the villain The Silver Samurai—a character who is also romantically linked to Viper, suggesting Mangold is totally going to bring to Wolverine the same romantic tension he brought to Jackman and Meg Ryan in Kate & Leopold.
