Joss Whedon returns to Twitter, launches celeb-powered voting initiative

Joss Whedon returned to Twitter today to promote his new project: the Save The Day PAC, a “get out the vote as long as that vote isn’t for Donald Trumpinitiative. The self-described “short-form digital production company” launched with a video featuring a lot of Whedon’s celeb pals including a bunch of Avengers, Neil Patrick Harris, and Keegan-Michael Key.

The PSA promises that if people vote Mark Ruffalo will go full frontal in his next film. (We know it’s a joke, but it’s worth taking into account.)

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Whedon put the screenplay he was writing on hold to devote himself to the PAC, which aims to have 15 to 25 videos before election day. “It’s not about attacking because Donny’s real good at attacking himself,” Whedon told THR. “It’s about getting people to vote, because it’s frightening, the apathy that people are treating the most crucial election of their lifetimes with.” Whedon himself has reportedly donated $1 million to Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

Whedon left Twitter in May 2015 amid a kerfuffle following the release of Avengers: Age Of Ultron. In an interview with BuzzFeed, he said the decision was made so he could concentrate on his work, likening being on the platform to “taking the bar exam at Coachella.”
