Let’s all stare into the void with this video guide to popular memes

Since the day is quickly coming when people will propose marriage with a picture from Bob’s Burgers and then file for divorce with a picture from Family Guy, it’s in everyone’s best interest to learn about the “memes” that the kids are so into these days.

Enter Top10Memes, a YouTube channel normally devoted to the sort of video listicles that make people who subscribe to The New Yorker bemoan the death of journalism. This one isn’t a masterpiece of long-form essay writing either, but it does illuminate the origins of Internet classics like “Condescending Wonka” and “Overly Attached Girlfriend” by juxtaposing the meme with the movie/TV show/YouTube video it comes from. Like it or not, this is how cultural historians of the future will remember us. And yes, they did misspell “science.”
