Lilac Daze recalls the Pixies’ glory days on “Kathleen”

On its upcoming EP, Sedated, Maryland’s Lilac Daze can’t help but feel like it’s channeling the Pixies’ glory days. It’s the kind of bouncing indie-pop that Frank Black and company dealt in and now can’t seem to muster that makes the whole of Sedated both a refreshing throwback and engaging introduciton. The A.V. Club is premiering “Kathleen,” a track that extols the band’s strongest virtues and features the kind of vocal interplay that recalls Lemuria’s earliest, most energetic days. Black Numbers will be releasing the six-track EP on July 12, with pre-orders for Sedated available now through the label’s store
