Lisa Kudrow will have a recurring role as a politician on the upcoming third season of acclaimed soapy drama Scandal. Kudrow will be joining her Web Therapy and The Comeback co-producer Dan Bucatinsky, who plays James Novak, journalist husband of eternally machinating White House Chief of Staff Cyrus Beene. Scandal is Kudrow’s largest television acting commitment in years and—with its Shonda Rhimesian soliloquies on good and evil, torture scenes, oval office love affairs, trembling lips, and power skirts—a change in tone for the comedic actress. Though her fans should probably just imagine Kudrow’s politician as a slightly altered continuation of “The One That Could Have Been”’s Phoebe-as-yelling-stockbroker arc.
