Listen to Dan Deacon’s impressively eclectic end-of-the-year mashup mixtape

For those already overwhelmed by the commencement of “The Year’s Best...” season, Dan Deacon has released a mixtape sure to assuage even the most severe cases of musical FOMO. Wish Book Volume 1, which Deacon made available through his Soundcloud earlier this week, is as much a digest as it is a series of mashups, incorporating samples taken from more than 40 different artists both recent and retro including Grimes, Beyoncé, James Brown, Radiohead, and an “unknown artist recorded in Jaipur, India.” As Consequence Of Sound suggests, the volume of sources and the frequency of change-ups on the tape is more than a little reminiscent of Girl Talk—but then again, Girl Talk never came up with a track name as bitingly punny as “Gangrimes Style.”
