A&E will not air a fourth season of Longmire, its most popular scripted series and America’s No. 1 employer of Lou Diamond Phillips for three years running. But that cancellation might not be the end of the trail for the drama and the forced cowboy metaphors it inspires: Deadline reports that the show’s production company, Warner Horizon, is driving the Western drama across the great TV plains, seeking networks that could benefit from the brand of justice doled out in the Walt Longmire mysteries of author Craig Johnson (and/or an infusion of Katee Sackhoff). Longmire’s departure leaves A&E a lawless hovel governed by barterers, killers, and bearded bigots; it also leaves the nation’s fathers and sons with one less thing to talk about that isn’t related to personal finances.
