Michael Stipe released his first new music since the dissolution of R.E.M.

Michael Stipe has released his first new material since R.E.M. disbanded back in 2011. Unfortunately, it’s a (rather boring) three-minute instrumental track, completely void of any of Stipe’s singing. But hey, it’s a new Michael Stipe track.

The clip is streaming exclusively on Salon and accompanies footage from filmmaker Tom Gilroy’s new movie, The Cold Lands, which is available now on VOD. Stipe and Gilroy have apparently been friends for about 30 years and have collaborated on a number of projects including films, music, and various political endeavors.
