Nickelodeon wraps up 14-year cliffhanger, greenlights new Hey Arnold! movie

Hey Arnold!
Hey Arnold!

In November, we reported that Nickelodeon was considering a TV movie revival of its beloved ‘90s cartoon Hey Arnold! with the help of the show’s original creator, Craig Bartlett. At the time, Nickelodeon had approved the creation of a script and was set to decide on whether it would move forward with the project once that script had come in. Now, Bartlett has taken to Instagram to announce that Nick has officially given the greenlight to the two-part, two-hour Hey Arnold! movie.

Apparently titled Hey Arnold: The Jungle Movie, it will pick up right where the original series ended, with the eponymous football-headed boy discovering a map that seemed to offer a clue to the whereabouts of his long-lost parents. The map was first revealed in part two of “The Journal,” the final episode produced in Hey Arnold!’s original run, which aired all the way back in 2002. That episode ended on a cliffhanger, with the network initially planning to wrap up the series with a second movie that would’ve featured Arnold finally uncovering what happened to his mom and dad (who only ever appeared on the show in flashbacks). That movie never got made, but The Jungle Movie will presumably be following the same plot.
