Dann Florek's Captain Donald Cragen is also leaving Law & Order: SVU

First Richard Belzer leaves Law And Order: SVU, and now comes news that Dann Florek, a.k.a. Captain Donald Cragen, has also departed the long-running procedural. Florek has been on the show for its entire 15-season run, appearing in 401 episodes, and even popping up on the original Law & Order from 1990 to 1993. Much like Belzer’s Sergeant John Munch, Cragen was written off the series because showrunner Warren Leight says SVU is trying to echo the real world, explaining, “NYPD has mandatory retirement before [an officer’s] 63rd birthday.” Florek tweeted that his last day on the show was Friday, but adds that “it was a sweet send off” and that his character will “live on in syndication land 4 evah!”
