Okkervil River’s Will Sheff made an 8-bit adventure game to promote his new record, The Silver Gymnasium

Okkervil River’s latest album The Silver Gymnasium is out September 3 on ATO. In the run-up to the release date, fans can play a browser game inspired by frontman Will Sheff’s childhood video game touchstones like Leisure Suit Larry and Maniac Mansion. Produced in collaboration with Eyes And Ears’ Benjamin Miles, the first chapter introduces a young man who finds his house empty and embarks on a quest to find his sister. It’s a lot of walking and very little action (Explore the library and the graveyard while collecting cryptic book pages!) but the chiptune versions of songs from the new album that form the soundtrack to the adventure make it enjoyable. New installments will be released every few weeks, presumably with the chiptune tracks available at the end.
