Atlanta rapper and Takers star Tip “T.I.” Harris has been arrested by L.A. deputies on suspicion of possessing methamphetamines, just under six months after his release from an Arkansas federal prison. Harris and his wife—Tameka Cottle, a former member of ‘90s group Xscape and star of the BET reality series The Tiny And Toya Show—were pulled over after cops smelled marijuana coming from the car (much like what happened to Paris Hilton last week). The couple was subsequently jailed and released after paying $10,000 bail each early this morning.
Harris is currently under a three-year supervised release from prison, and naturally, that includes the order to not commit any more crimes or possess any controlled substances, along with submitting to mandatory drug tests. While a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney in Atlanta has yet to comment on whether Harris has violated those terms, obviously a conviction on possession charges would probably lead to severe repercussions—and something tells us MTV won't be ameliorating things with a reality show this time around. Since getting out, Harris, who now calls himself a “retired gangster,” has publicly dedicated himself to following a straight and narrow path, including speaking to kids about staying away from drugs and guns, and trying his best to be a “role model.” When our own Nathan Rabin spoke to him just over a week ago, Harris had this to say about that newfound sense of responsibility:
“A responsibility to be a role model as a father yes, as a man, as a public figure, yes. That responsibility just leads me to do what I feel is right and to conduct myself with the moral standards, principles, and integrity that were instilled in me by my family.”
T.I. has yet to comment on his arrest. Hey celebrities: Maybe you should wait until you get home to blaze one.
