Rhys Darby is getting his own Netflix series

Rhys Darby closed out Flight Of The Conchords back in New Zealand with the band, and the comedian is staying there for Short Poppies, his new series that was recently acquired by Netflix. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the eight-episode mockumentary follows a journalist (David Farrier) around a small New Zealand town as he encounters the local characters, all of whom are played by Darby. It’s his first attempt at writing and starring in his own series.

Short Poppies debuts April 3 on Netflix in the U.S., Canada, and the UK. The show’s Twitter feed has posted some pics from shooting, which wrapped more than a year ago. Naturally, Darby is in drag in at least one.
