There’s just something about war-torn Africa that makes people want to fall in love. Charlize Theron and Javier Bardem will finally bring that specific sexual tension to the screen in the soon-to-be-greenlit The Last Face. Sean Penn will direct, with Blue Is The Warmest Color’s Adèle Exarchopoulos set to appear as well. Theron and Bardem play humanitarian relief doctors in Africa who fall for each other, then face the “tough moral decisions that must be made during time of civil unrest.” Exarchopoulos will reportedly play a journalist. Off screen, Penn and Theron recently started dating, so working on an African romance drama— where Penn will likely direct Theron in heated love scenes with Bardem—can only bring them closer. Producers are aiming to begin shooting in Africa this summer.
