Legendary metal band Corrosion Of Conformity made a surprise comeback in 2012, when the band regrouped for a self-titled album without longtime frontman Pepper Keenan, who has been otherwise occupied in Down. But that still left the original, mid-’80s three-piece lineup of the band intact—and the stripped-down trio is back with a new full-length, IX. Veering between smoke-wreathed grooves and sludgy rushes of belligerence, the album is a meat-and-potatoes feast. It’s unclear whether Keenan will eventually return to COC, but with the swaggering arrival of IX, that’s becoming a moot question.
