It’s pretty much a foregone conclusion that a third Ghostbusters film will never be made—at least, not one that Bill Murray wants any part of, unless the relentless daily questioning forces him to do it just to shut everyone up, as he’s suggested. But of course, that hasn’t stopped the Internet from speculating about it, because we know that it means guaranteed pageviews. Diabolical. Today’s latest rumor regarding what direction the still-not-confirmed-by-anyone sequel would take is courtesy of Bloody Disgusting:
Much like Steven Spielberg did with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (where Mutt Williams is Indy and Marion's love-child), Ivan Reitman is looking to kick-start a new franchise with a ghost bustin' love-child of their own.
Early word from an insider is that the (hinted at) love affair between Dr. Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) and Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver) has a much bigger impact on the franchise than just an angry Vigo (Wilhelm von Homburg).
From what we're told, it will be revealed that Dana's son Oscar is in fact Peter's child as well. Furthermore, Oscar is now 21-ish and ready to take the reigns of his father's ghost busting business!
As you can see, this latest rumor comes from yet another unnamed “insider” who insists that not only have all four Ghostbusters signed on to reprise their roles, but that Sigourney Weaver is also expected to return alongside Rick Moranis, who will officially come out of retirement. The report also swears, “Things are actually progressing nicely (contrary to what Murray is saying).” Could it be that Murray’s very public, very fervent dismissal is all just a form of subterfuge meant to distract the public from the film’s production, so when it comes out it’s a genuine surprise? Or, consider this other possibility: No.
