Today in puzzling remake news: Bryan Singer unsheaths Excalibur remake

His man of steel reboot Superman Returns didn't exactly set the world on fire, but Bryan Singer is nonetheless intent on remaking the origin story for another great mythical figure. According to Variety the director will be producing a remake of the 1981 John Boorman Camelot yarn Excalibur as a possible directorial vehicle. The original Excalibur was a star-making vehicle for thesps like Helen Mirren and Liam Neeson. Yay? Incidentally, I have trademarked the phrase "According to Variety" so no one else can steal my idea of stealing from Variety. With the X Men movies and The Usual Suspects Singer has proven himself a solid director of flashy, big-budget fare so we are, as always, cautiously optimistic.
