Today in the Internet eating itself: Gotye releases supercut of people singing his song

The Internet has once again doubled back on its own tail, as Gotye has produced a supercut of people covering his hit single, “Somebody That I Used To Know.” The Belgian musician put together “Somebodies” by mining YouTube for audio and video clips of all sorts of people, from fingerpicking dads to caterwauling Idol types. The resulting clip manages to reduce the mountain of 23,000-odd covers currently floating around YouTube into one, almost six-minute, multi-layered tribute to individual interpretation. Not every single cover was used—that would be nuts—but Gotye managed to mix about 120 choice cuts into this fun montage.
