The 2009 edition of the Toronto International Film Festival begins tomorrow, and as always, The A.V. Club will have intrepid correspondents Noel Murray and Scott Tobias on the ground and in screening rooms, taking an advance look at the movies cinephiles will be talking about for the next six months. For those who want to follow the action remotely, you can do so two ways. Check The A.V. Club homepage every morning for a full report on all the movies we saw the previous day. (You can actually do this tomorrow, when we post "Day 0" coverage of movies we've seen prior to the fest.) And what exactly will we be seeing over the next seven days? Some of the most eagerly anticipated movies of the fall, such as the Coen brothers' A Serious Man, Steven Soderbergh's The Informant!, Michael Moore's Capitalism: A Love Story, Jason Reitman's Up In The Air, and John Hillcoat's adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's The Road. Also some Cannes favorites, like Police Adjective, Vincere and The White Ribbon. And potential new cult favorites, like Joe Dante's The Hole an George Romero's Survival Of The Dead. And rock-docs, like Neil Young Trunk Show and The White Stripes Under Great White Northern Lights. This year has more unknown quantities and first-time filmmakers than usual, so there could be some real discoveries. Keep up with us and be the first to hear what's what.
