Watch a homemade, shot-for-shot remake of the final Top Gun dogfight

The folks at Cinefix produce some delightful YouTube series—the latest 8-Bit Cinema featured Pulp Fiction—but this week’s episode of Homemade Shot For Shot is a recreation of the climactic dogfight from Top Gun. It’s incredibly accurate—just watch the side-by-side comparison as proof, all the way down to every camera roll—and the behind-the-scenes video features a lot of cool model work, miniature pyrotechnics, and a living room as a stand-in for the fighter jet cockpit. Even with all those whistles and bells, the most impressive effect is still probably the overhead transparency sheets used to recreate the targeting computers.
