Entertainment powerhouse J.J. Abrams has long been known for his epic action sequences, and in a rare behind-the-scenes video posted to his website Monday, comedian and ADR recordist Ben Schwartz has revealed how at least part of the magic happens. The sound of a phaser beam in the upcoming Star Trek Into Darkness, for example, is apparently achieved by Schwartz quickly reciting short sentences in a goofy voice. It’s unclear what Schwartz is actually doing on the set of Star Trek since he’s not affiliated with the film in any way, but who knows? Maybe he’ll have a surprise cameo. Then again, maybe he really will be the sound of Captain Kirk eating pudding.
