Western Addiction fights off weariness on its new song, “Taedium”

San Francisco’s Western Addiction isn’t the most prolific melodic hardcore band in the game, but that doesn’t mean it lacks zeal. In the 12 years since its debut album Cognicide, the band’s undergone lineup changes and released a few EPs, but on March 10 Fat Wreck Chords will release Tremulous, the band’s second album of pummeling, pop-laced hardcore. The A.V. Club is premiering “Taedium,” a song that sees vocalist Jason Hall joined by Propagandhi’s Todd Kowalski as the pair bounce lines off one another and unite on burly, shout-along moments. The song’s title is a play on “taedium vitae,” a Latin phrase suggesting a weariness and fear of living. While that kind of fatigue does permeate Hall’s lyrics, the band finds ways to offer a bit of uplift with each passionate punch.

Tremulous is available for pre-order via Fat Wreck Chords.
