AMC producing Frank Darabont-penned/directed Walking Dead pilot
Comingsoon.net via Variety reports that Frank Darabont is taking a break from Stephen King adaptations to write and direct a pilot for AMC based on the Robert Kirkman graphic novel series The Walking Dead. The series is centered around a small-town police officer who leads a band of zombie-apocalypse survivors across the country in search of a safe and less bitey destination to call home. Depending upon the direction the producers take, it sounds like the show has the potential to emulate successful character-driven sci-fi/fantasy shows Lost and Battlestar Galactica, whose earnest depictions of homeless and isolated ensemble casts trying to survive without killing each other first made for some of the most critically acclaimed television this decade. A new show with beloved characters on the chopping block each season could very well be what Lost fans need to dull the pain of the series finale this spring.
