The A.V. Club has a smattering of local sites, and every day, writers in these locales are posting about music, films, and other events and news happening in their cities. Whether you live in one of these cities or elsewhere, there’s plenty of great local stuff that’s worth a look. Here’s a round-up of what caught our attention this week.
• A.V. Club Indianapolis officially launched amongst much fanfare over the Super Bowl and Peyton Manning’s future.
• Milwaukee prepped for Bon Iver’s SNL appearance by running down a list of sketches they’d love to see frontman Justin Vernon guest on (Church Lady not included).
• Chicago was alarmed to discover that the creator of LOLcats is actually allergic to cats.
• Toronto took a long, introspective look at The Tragically Hip, a.k.a. “Canada’s R.E.M.”
• Meanwhile, Denver took a similarly deep look at the good, the bad, and the ugly of punk rockers Descendents.
• The Twin Cities had their own Peyton Manning drama, pondering if the future Hall Of Fame quarterback could wind up wearing Viking purple.
• Madison took solace in the departure of former Brewers’ first baseman Prince Fielder (now a Detroit Tiger) with a really, really awful song.
• Philadelphia figured the best way to get through a Pro Bowl and Super Bowl with no representation from the Eagles was to drink a lot.
