Elijah Wood confirmed to play Iggy Pop
This story has been kicking around for about two years now, but today's Variety report from Cannes finally confirms that Elijah Wood will indeed play Iggy Pop in The Passenger, a biopic about his early years with The Stooges. The film, directed by Nick Gomez (Drowning Mona), will be shot over the next six months for a summer 2008 release. Pop has "given his blessing" to the project but will not participate.
In this Spin story on the project from 2005, Wood said, "I'll be playing Iggy Pop, which is pretty frightening...I'm a huge fan of Iggy. It's going to be a massive physical change!"
Indeed. Speaking of which, has anyone seen Elijah lately? How's that "massive physical change" coming?
