Newswire Moneyball back in play. Aaron Sorkin to pinch-hit script polish

The last time we checked in with Moneyball, Steven Soderbergh's proposed adaptation of Michael Lewis' bestseller about how Oakland As general manager Billy Beane used his big old brain bone and a fancy computer to turn his team into a contender on a tight budget, it had been put into turnaround after Sony came to its senses and realized a fifty million dollar movie about baseball strategy and statistics from Mr. Artsy Pants might not be a sure-fire box-office hit.

According to Variety, the picture is back in play with a change in personnel. Soderbergh is out as director but Brad Pitt is still slated to star while Aaron Sorkin has been brought in to rewrite Steve Zaillian's script. Sorkin's draft will reportedly focus more on Beane and probably feature more of Sorkin's strident speechifying and walk n' talks.
