Mouse consumes Spider: Disney buys Marvel for $4 billion
The Walt Disney Company has announced plans to purchase Marvel Entertainment for the hefty sum of $4 billion, MSNBC and other sources are reporting. Beyond that, and the news that Marvel shareholders will be getting "$30 per share in cash, plus 0.745 Disney shares for every Marvel share they own" there don't seem to be a lot of details. And there would seem to be quite a few details to work out. Marvel's had a lot of success in the film world by working with various studios instead of being tied, like DC is to Warner Bros., to a single corporation. Will this change that? Will Disney seeks to exploit Marvel characters in ways Marvel itself has not tried? Will we see Namor team up with the Little Mermaid for some violent-but-charming undersea ass-kicking? Developing...
