This Week In Local Pricey PBR, mocking Bob Dylan, and copious amounts of cleavage

A look at what's going on this week on the local A.V. Club sites

PBR: $46?

Hey, did you know The A.V. Club has seven (soon to be nine) local sites? Every day, writers in Austin, Chicago, Denver, Madison, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, and the Twin Cities are posting about music, films, and other events and news happening in their cities. Whether you live in one of these cities or elsewhere, there’s plenty of great local stuff that’s worth a look. Here’s a round-up of what caught our attention this week.

• Milwaukee took a gulp of that oft-maligned cool-kid swill of choice, Pabst Blue Ribbon, and discovered an interesting fact: A bottle of the watered-down brew costs $46 in China. Let that be a warning to any of our nation’s fine bike messengers with exotic travel plans.

• Madison chronicled the plight of conservative blogger Ann Althouse, who was called “socially retarded” on camera.

• Philadelphia listened to five songs that poke fun at the court jester of classic rock ’n’ roll, Bob Dylan.

• Denver watched the trailer for a locally produced, post-apocalyptic, BDSM-sci-fi epic, Planet Diva. As you might expect, it’s vaguely NSFW—blatant zoom shots of cleavage are usually frowned upon in the workplace—but definitely worth a look. Oh, and the whole thing is shot on Super 8!

• The Twin Cities speculated about whether Minnesota storyteller Kevin Kling will replace Prairie Home Companion host Garrison Keillor. Keillor is set to retire in 2012, and Kling—who provides occasional commentary for NPR’s All Things Considered—seems like a natural fit.

• Chicago talked to drummer Jamin Orrall of Jeff The Brotherhood about, among other things, why smartphones can suck it.

• Austin got excited about the new additions for Fun Fun Fun Fest, haunted or not.
