Zhang Yimou to remake Coen Bros. flick (in Chinese)
Director Zhang Yimou (Raise The Red Lantern, House Of Flying Daggers, umm, the opening and closing of the Beijing Olympics) will remake Joel and Ethan Coen's dark classic Blood Simple, and the Chinese-language pic will have worldwide distribution, Variety reports. And now I shall quote you from that same article, rather than paraphrase it: "The untitled redo will be set in a Chinese noodle shop in a dune-specked desert, rather than a bar in an unnamed Texas town, and revolve around the restaurant owner's plan to murder his adulterous wife and her lover." No word on a release date yet; filming hasn't begun.
