Falling somewhere between Electric 6 and the Hives in attitude and sound, Glasgow-based band 1990s reflects less its eponymous era and more so the period immediately following it, when both of the aforementioned players were indie-rock staples. So what do the 1990s do to distinguish themselves from a musical movement that’s decidedly past its prime? On their recently released second record, Kicks, the answer involves high harmonies, irresistible Scottish accents, and a heavy coat of pop sheen.
