Acrylics
Pleasantly retro without being patently revivalist, Acrylics recalls some of the same languid, Laurel Canyon rock vibes and blasphemous Rumours cribbing as every other current ’70s throwback, but it does it more organically than most. The Brooklyn band got a huge leg up when Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor produced its debut EP, All Of The Fire, then promptly used it to launch his new label, Terrible Records. Acrylics’ full-length debut, Lives And Treasure, burns fairly clean: Boy-girl harmonies and the occasional sawing pedal steel trip lightly across the group’s gentle, unhurried, slightly twangy jangle-pop odes, recalling both pre-cocaine Fleetwood Mac and mid-’80s college rock without the slightest hint of a post-millennial wink.
